The Royal Family’s new portrait may look like a photo of ‘hotel staff’, but it says a lot about the new dynamic

LONDON, UK: A new portrait of the Royal Family released by Buckingham Palace just 10 days after the Queen’s death has the internet talking. The image had King Charles accompanied by Camilla, the Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales and many wondered specifically why Prince William had never hugged his wife for over 11 years.

However, according to body language expert and author Judi James, the image contains a hidden message about Prince William’s new role. James told Metro: “His legs apart and the way his hands are clasped in front of his body is an attentive waiting position.” “It’s the kind of pose you see of staff in hotel lobbies and it could signal their role as a support and replacement for their father. It looks dedicated and Catherine’s arm around her back suggests that she, in turn, is there to support him,” added the expert.

On the other hand, the new monarch seems comfortable near his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, with her right arm folded around her waist. James stressed that it was a “rare expression of public adoration” for the king. Earlier this year, there were rumors that Prince Harry’s planned biography might feature new revelations about his relationship with his stepmother. As a result, the scholar pointed out that the action King Charles performs in the photograph can be seen as “a demonstration of both solidarity and affection”. Meanwhile, Judy added: “A pose like this will suggest mutual support and resilience.”

James also said that with a four-person line-up instead of just King Charles and Camilla, the image shows the nation is ‘in safe hands for at least one more generation’. She continued, “This portrait seems emphatic in terms of its messages of continuity and togetherness. There is finally a sense of peace after all the breakups and soap opera dramas of the past few decades.”

Meanwhile, a few Royal Family fans were quick to point out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not included in the photo, despite being present at the palace when the image was taken . However, others said the California-based couple didn’t deserve to be featured as they stepped down from their responsibilities as senior royals in 2020.
