A man is in Oklahoma County Detention Center after police say he broke into a downtown hotel room and fondled a 10-year-old girl.
Police documents say Ivory Walker, 45, posed as a cleaning staff member in order to gain access to the room.
Authorities said the girl left a festival on Sunday afternoon and returned to a room at the Omni Hotel where she was staying with her mother and sister. The 10-year-old expected to be alone in the room, but police said Walker was inside.
“She believed the man was there cleaning, believed he worked for the hotel,” Oklahoma City Police Department Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.
Police said Walker did not work for the hotel.
The 10-year-old girl told officers she sat up on the bed and Walker followed her.
“He went to sit on the bed, took his shoes off, grabbed her and pulled her towards him and tried to hold her there,” Knight said.
Authorities said she managed to fend off the assailant and walk out of the room before heading to reception to alert authorities.
Court documents also said the 10-year-old was not the only person to have met Walker. His 15-year-old sister had seen him a few minutes before.
The 15-year-old told police Walker followed her into the room on the pretext that he was there to clean up.
“She also thought something was wrong, and she pulled away from him as well,” Knight said.
Her unsuspecting 10-year-old sister entered the room moments later.
Police and hotel security then found Walker on another floor. He was convicted of burglary and complaints of sexual violence.
Knight said the sisters’ instincts served them well.
“In both cases, the girls knew something was wrong and they pulled themselves out of the situation and alerted the authorities, which is exactly what we’re telling people to do,” Knight said.
