Heartbroken Cork hotel staff pay tribute to manager who died after short illness


Staff at the Vienna Woods Hotel in Cork have paid tribute to General Manager John Peters, who has sadly passed away after a “short but bravely fought illness”.

John Peters was well known throughout Cork for the warm welcome he extended to hotel guests, and the staff who had the privilege of working with miss say he will be sorely missed.

“We are truly heartbroken,” they said in a statement earlier today.

“Last night our esteemed colleague and Deputy Managing Director John Peters (JP) sadly passed away after a short but bravely fought illness.

“Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to John’s amazing wife, Aoife, their wonderful baby boy Jude, John’s parents, the Bickerstaff family and his endless circle of friends.

“John, we will all miss you so much, we are truly heartbroken. You are a complete gentleman and dedicated hospitality professional. You will always be remembered by our entire team with such fondness,” the team said.

John was from Ballinlough and Farranree. He leaves behind a large family who will be greatly missed.

Over the course of his career John has touched the lives of many and his passing is a great loss to the local community and Cork hospitality in general.

His funeral will take place Friday at the Notre-Dame de Lourdes church on the road to Ballinlough at 11 a.m.
