The Department of Agriculture of the Davao Region (DA-Davao), in coordination with the Provincial Bureau of Agriculture (PAGRO), officially handed over the value of 8 million pesos of a community enterprise or a coffee processing facility at the New Leyte Agriculture Cooperative (NLAC), who will assist in the production, processing, marketing and distribution of their coffee.

Said project was made possible through DA-Davao’s High Value Crop Development Program (HVCDP), with inclusion funds from Senator Cynthia Villar’s office. Project components include the construction of a one-unit coffee processing facility; a one-piece coffee dryer; and a set of coffee processing equipment such as a coffee roaster, grinder, pulper, huller, scale and moisture meter. The project is also accompanied by the supply of 760 bags of fertilizer and capacity building for the cooperative.

NLAC President Jorge Omictin in his message expresses his gratitude to the government as the company will help in the consolidation of all the coffee beans in the Masara line areas which will later stimulate and increase coffee production in the province. The above-mentioned facilities and equipment will minimize the overall production time and cost and remove barriers to completing their production; thus helping farmers, especially small coffee growers, to increase the value of their green coffee beans while offering a high profit in return.

During the program, Delio Cezar, a coffee MSME, was recognized for his significant contributions to the province’s coffee industry as he was one of the participants in the Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) which s was held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, Davao City on March 18th. 2022. As a result, he represented the Philippines at the Specialty Coffee Expo in Boston, Massachusetts, USA from April 8-10, 2022. DAVORO PIO
