PALAKKAD: Two people who were staying at the Hill View Tower Hotel in Nellipuzha in Mannarkad died of suffocation and two other guests were rescued after the building caught fire in the early hours of Friday.

Fire and rescue service personnel said they were told only two guests were staying at the hotel part-owned by Mannarkad City President C Mohammed Basheer at the time, and not of the deceased. The deceased – Mohammed Basheer, 58, from Thalakdathoor in Malappuram and Pushpalatha, 42, from Vilayur near Pattambi – were staying in rooms on the third floor of the hotel. The fire started at the reception of the restaurant on the ground floor of the three-story hotel at 3 a.m. All furniture and other fixtures on the floor were completely destroyed.

As smoke rose and filled the rooms on the upper floors, fire and rescue personnel were able to extinguish the blaze before it did any further damage. When the rooms were later inspected, two people were found dead on the third floor. Hotel workers told firefighters that there were only two guests in the rooms at the time and staff saved them both, they added.

Hotel owner Mohammed Basheer blamed the hour-long delay on the arrival of fire trucks for the deaths and damage. However, Mannarkad Fire Station Deputy Officer AK Govindan Kutty denied the charges and said he received the information at 3:20 am from the police station and arrived at the hotel in 3:25. It is believed that a short circuit was the cause of the fire. The losses remain to be estimated.

“The hospitality industry has been devastated by COVID and government policies, so it is critical that we equip ourselves with the tools to revive once the country hits 80% immunization and travel returns to relative normalcy. .

“However, we know that children under the age of 12 cannot be vaccinated, and therefore to ensure the well-being of our customers and staff, we must insist on compulsory vaccination, with priority being for all staff. who interacts with the customers and then all the staff working in the hotel.

Dr Schwartz added: “I have written to all hotel staff explaining the reasons for the compulsory vaccination and from the first comments we think most of the staff strongly agree, with many vaccinated and others being vaccinated. New Delhi: With travel, tourism and hospitality among the sectors most affected by the pandemic and in urgent need of a helping hand for a rapid recovery, the Center has called on states to vaccinate tour operators, hotel employees, drivers and other industry stakeholders prioritize restoring confidence in the tourism sector.

“We have agreed with state governments that immunization of all tourism-related stakeholders – be they drivers, tour operators, hotel employees, hotel management – should be taken care of as a priority so that we have a sense of confidence that all stakeholders in the tourism sector are fully vaccinated, ”said Tourism Secretary Arvind Singh.

“It will give a feeling of confidence to customers who want to go to a safe place. If he knows that all the employees and people he is going to meet are fully vaccinated, that will give him a feeling of confidence, ”he added.

As soon as the first cases of coronavirus were reported in early 2020, the tourism industry started to feel the heat. But as the nationwide lockdown was announced in March of last year, the industry has faced the worst crisis in its history. Millions of jobs were immediately lost. With no hope of a quick recovery in sight, a significant number of tour operators have had to close their stores.

According to a study by the National Council for Applied Economic Research (NCAER), 14.5 million jobs were lost in the first quarter (April to June period) of fiscal year 21, 5.2 million during the second quarter and 1.8 million jobs in the third quarter, compared to around 34.8 million (direct) during the pre-pandemic period of 2019-2020.

The government has given the industry monetary, tax and compliance breaks, but these have been described as grossly insufficient by tour operators and operators, hoteliers and other relevant stakeholders.

Government relief measures include concessional loans under a credit guarantee system, postponement of statutory compliance deadlines and a moratorium on loan repayments.

“Maybe we did not meet the expectations of all stakeholders in society because there were a lot of expectations of additional tax breaks and monetary relief, but the finance ministry and all of us are in. ongoing dialogue and interact with industry. Due to the overall economic slowdown in 2020-21, the tourism economy or tourism direct gross value added (TDGVA) experienced a decrease of 42.8% in the first quarter; 15.5% in Q2 and down 1.1% in Q3, according to NCAER estimate.

Shaikh had also requested a withdrawal from PF’s account, but the case could not be processed as his Aadhaar number was not updated on the records. Shaikh put his child in a public school at a private institute earlier. “My wife makes soft toys and sometimes also works as a casual worker. It helps us run the show, ”he says.
Shaikh’s colleague Dhananjay Kanfade said his family survives on loans secured against gold. Her village parents also send money to cover expenses.
A restaurant worker, asking not to be named, said: “I used to live in a one bedroom apartment. Unable to pay the rent, we have now switched to a single room as a paying guest. The 28-year-old man lives with his wife.
Tejinder Singh Renu, President of the Nagpur Residential Hotels Association, said, “Small hotels can break even with 25% occupancy. A large premium hotel needs at least 70%. STONINGTON – A 21-year-old Massachusetts man faces charges after police say he used racist slurs and other derogatory language towards staff at a Pawcatuck hotel, then challenged staff and later the police to fight.

Stonington Police have charged the man, William J. Jordan, of Florence, Massachusetts, with a second degree public order violation following threats. Hotel workers in Turkey have been very responsive to calls for the coronavirus vaccine as the vaccination rate among them is high, the country’s Minister of Tourism and Culture said.

“There is a widespread belief that young people tend not to get vaccinated. However, this is not the case with the hotel staff. The vaccination rate in hotels has increased to 93% and we aim to increase this figure to 100%, ”said Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
