A fire damaged a total of 59 rooms at Jambuluwuk Oceano Hotel in Gili Trawangan, Gili Indah Village, Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at approximately 6 p.m. Lombok local time.
Gili Trawangan hamlet chief Muhammad Husni revealed that the blaze nearly burned down all the thatched-roof hotel rooms.
“Residents struggled to put out the fire using simple tools. Some used fire extinguishers and water from the hotel pool,“, he said Saturday by telephone.
According to the Head of Information Management, Documentation and Multimedia Public Relations Sub-section of the North Lombok Police, Second Inspector Police Made Wiryawan, the fire started when a customer staying in room number 175 informed the hotel reception that there had been a fire in room 179. Based on this information, Jambuluwuk engineering staff named Toni immediately checked the location and found the fire.
“Due to high winds and the fact that the roof of the building was thatched, the fire spread very quickly to other buildings, causing 59 rooms to burn,Wiryawan said in a written statement Sunday, July 31.
When the fire broke out, about 22 rooms in total were occupied by visitors. Fortunately, although the fire managed to burn a total of 59 rooms, no fatalities were reported. The fire was successfully extinguished at 22:00 Lombok local time
Meanwhile, Jambuluwuk Hotel & Resorts marketing communications manager Martha W Thomas said her team was still awaiting a police investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
“All guests and employees are safe, there are no casualties. After the police investigation, we will hold a press conference,” Martha said after confirmation by Kompas.com.
